Never edit when you're dopey

The good news is I found 7 Roseate Spoonbills this morning. They were hanging out with a flock of 17 Wood Storks and 1 juvenile White Ibis.

The bad news is, I was working on one of my favourite shots of the day and somehow managed to unintentionally click the 'save' button. I didn't figure out what had happened until it was too late to undo everything. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, this means I lost the original - which included 3 other spoonbills... the ones I was actually focusing on - and now only have this crop. >:\

Oh, well, no use crying over spilt milk, right? *sigh*
Note to self: don't try to pick up where I left off before an accidental nap.

You might have to click for a (slightly) larger view to tell what was happening in that shot. Apparently, one of the spoonbills decided he (she?) had had enough of the ibis's company. He wisely put a little distance - and another bird - between himself and the prickly pink poker.

Now, before I do any more damage, I'm going to call it a night. But first, I want to let y'all know how much I appreciate your prayers and well-wishes. PTL, I'm feeling SO much better now. Still barking and talking like a man, but those are always the last symptoms to go. Hope you all had a terrific weekend. Sleep sweet! And may God bless!

Of course you know I have serious spoonbill envy!

Wouldn't the original still be on the memory card for the camera??

I love those accidental naps!

I'm off for some camping on the Gulf for a couple of days....probably nowhere near the spoonbills... Nice photos--lucky you!

Peggy, I SO hope you see spoonbills on the Gulf! I thought of you the minute they came into view.

A few months ago, the original would still be on the memory card, but I have a ne system now. I keep all pics in monthly folders. Every day, when I get home with 200-300 pics, I MOVE all but the last one to my hard drive, then COPY that last one (to maintain the number sequence). Reckon I'll be going back to the old system, at least until I get an external HD to back up everything first.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Sophie.

Nice pink pictures. And the closest spoonbill in the top photo is banded. I wonder where that took place.

Thanks ever so, Steve. 8-]

You're very observant! We reported it on the Audubon Spoonbill Banding Project website. The band was red, indicating the bird was born in Tampa Bay. If I spot it again, I'll be sure to try for a better look/picture.

Great spoons!
Great also to hear you are recovering :)

"accidental naps"

Thanks, FC!

I rarely take a nap on purpose. They almost always leave me dopey for hours. Every now and then one sneaks up on me. Usually when I'm doing logic problems or sudoku. The worst ones are when I wake up and think it's tomorrow. Messes with my mind. 8-Þ

so glad you are feeling better!

love those pink "boa" bottoms all fluffed up. where did you tell me i might see spoonbills down here?

SophieMae said...

Thanks, Meems! 8-]

They really are too adorable, aren't they? I've heard they've been seen on Strauber Memorial Hwy, between NPR and Anclote. Also Dunedin Causeway and McKay Bay. Last time we went to Fort DeSoto, we saw some on the Bayway. And there were some on the road to Green Key in NPR. If I think of or hear of any other places, I'll let you know.

Great photos! I saw five spoonbills off Bottoms Road the other day in a group of over 50 wood storks. I assume that that was where this pic was taken. I'll have to look for bands if I see them again.

Sara, thanks for stopping by! Yes, those pics were taken on Bottoms Road. I've seen spoonbills down there before, but never so many and so often as this year. Timing is everything, I reckon. 8-] I hope you see them again. If I ever get my car back, I can use DS's scope for a better look.
