Momma and her young'un came back yesterday evening. I didn't want to scare them, so I snapped a few pics through the kitchen windows. The screens made this a challenging undertaking, to say the least. Anyhow, the little one was quite cooperative.

Then, what to my wondering eyes did appear

But another speckledy, spotted young deer!

I was beside myself with delight! I so wanted to run out on the deck for better shots, but I really want them to feel safe here. When they meandered down to the road, a man in a pickup spotted them and stopped for a minute. I hope it wasn't a hunter. Don't get me wrong... I have nothing against hunters or hunting, as long as it isn't entirely for sport. But this little patch of woods is a refuge for all creatures great and small. (Except for creepy rodents and crawly roaches. I don't have no truck with those kinda vermin.)

They were too skittish to allow a great shot, but I'm fairly tickled with the ones I got before they high-tailed it. Just wish Momma had let me get a better crack at that young'un.
It wasn't even that bad a fall... or so it seemed. I have to say, it's been a miserable few months, with various and sundry related, and sometimes disturbing, symptoms coming and going.

Right now, I'm spending way too much time squirming around, trying to get a position that allows me to type and doesn't hurt. Walking every day; still some good days, some not so good. My psychotic nerve and sacrilegious joint have finally stopped tag teaming me. I can handle one at a time. I think there's some hip flexor issues going on, as well. When I do something, I go whole hog. 8-}

Yesterday, I thought I had it licked. No pain, to speak of, just some stiffness and tenderness. Today is the one step back.

On a happier note, spring cleaning is coming along nicely. I confess, I enjoy playing sidewalk supervisor, watching the guys do the actual work. And I'm finally able to let go of some things that should long ago have been hauled out of here. I sold my big, heavy, old, clunky desk and am haunting craigslist in search of a smaller, more feminine version. Much as I like shabby chic, I am a bit disgusted with the abuse of the term. If it's worn out, beat up, painted ugly, just call it shabby chic and stick a bigger price tag on it. GAD!

Yes, all things considered, life is still pretty dawgawn good. I despair the goings-on in our country, but I know, no matter what, God is still in control, and will always be!

God bless y'all, my dear blogger-world friends!
Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^
So, the idea is to save money, right? This is one of their helpful hints to make your sneakers last longer:

'Another way to preserve your workout shoes is to have two pairs that you rotate for exercise or training. This way, it will take you longer to wear them down.'
Where are my shades?! *sbert*
.SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-88862067110259011802013-03-24T10:24:00.000-04:002013-03-24T10:24:00.949-04:00New attitude... so very sad.

I just read an article entitled 'relationships are the new religion for many'. It talks about Easter and other Christian and Jewish holidays and how people in the US 'celebrate' them today. The statistics are sad enough. The attitudes are heartbreaking. So many American Christians and Jews now celebrate 'holidays', not 'holy days'. It's not that they don't go to church on these days. (Personally, I know a lot of tri-weekly church-goers who are put to shame by the Christian walk of some non-attendees.) It's the celebration of the creation, not the Creator. It's the joy in getting together, not coming together. So many of us have completely missed the boat. :(

Just all kindsa stuff happens when it's least convenient. Like tripping over Duller's pile of 'stuff' in the office and falling into it. At least it broke my fall. It didn't seem so bad at the time. Just a couple bruises. It took a while for the full impact to hit me. And I've been feeling that impact for 2-3 weeks now. Reckon I whiplashed myownself and wrenched my back, as well. Duller's penance is a backrub every time I catch him near me.

I was already being tormented by a sacrilegious joint and a psychotic nerve bent on reminding me I ain't no spring chicken. As long as I don't look in the mirror, I'm convinced I'm still 30-something. 8-]

Otherwisely, my ISP is performing miserably. Support, as per usual, tries their best to prove it's not their fault. FInally, they admit it must be and give theirownselves 24 hours to come out and do whatever they do out there. Seriously, if they'd get a clue and move the phone box out of the ditch... think about it, It's been raining for a couple days. Well, I keep thinking I should come back here and see can I get a fresh start. This seems as good a time as any. It's been a hard year so far. Life, as Miss Edye always said, be so daily. I was typing a comment on a dear friend's blog when I realized it was becoming quite lengthy. So I copied/pasted it and elaborated here.

We had to deal with the realities of an agin', arthritic, luxatious dawg for a couple weeks before facin' that final decision for her. It were a sad, sad day. An' each day since has been rife wi' moments when we catch ourownselves in now needless habits created entirely as a result of her presence. Ever' time I pull out a tea bag, I think, 'No need to muffle the clinkin' glass no more, Sophie'... She was convinced that every glass against glass tinkle was her treat canister - though it had been years since we kept them in there - and she was long overdue for one. After all, it had been a good 5 minutes since her last one.

Duller, the light of her life - and that was completely mutual - was blessed/burdened with escortin' her to the vet's office. It was bittersweet. Her meds had helped her walk out on her own power. She did hate bein' carried outdoors to 'do her bidness'. Except for being unable to keep her food down, she seemed almost her old happy self again. So much so, we almost doubted our decision. But we all knew this wouldn't last and she would, likely tomorrow, have to be carried again. This was the right time. She had regained her dignity. It would have been cruel to take that away from her.

So, on the morning of 9 February, she lay in our grass for the last time. Her red eyes had cleared and that little doggie 'smile' graced her sweet face once more. We said goodbye and she wagged and licked, knowing she was 'goin' to see the other doggies at the animal hospital'. The vet's staff all loved Josie and always marvelled at how good her teeth were and how young she looked for a 13-year-old dawg. And were amazed that she actually looked forward to her visits with them. The vet, who had been so matter-of-fact the day before, bawled herownself when it came down to it.

I've loved and lost before, so I know we will survive this heartache. I also know that, 13 years from now, I'll reach for that glass canister one day and think, 'No need to muffle the clinkin' glass no more, Sophie'.
I try to NOT read comments on controversial posts, coz I know I'm gonna get mad, or sad, or disgusted with the human race...

I happened upon a short article about a man's fight to allow a Confederate flag on FL license plates. A couple of quotes in the article itself made me mad, sad, AND disgusted. Then I just had to read some comments. Which led to reading more comments... and more... *sigh* Seriously, I'm so tired of being maligned for something my ancestors never did. Even if they had, why should I be ostracized and called derogatory names for it? It just amazes me how hateful people can be while calling me a defeated, redneck, backwards, inbred hater.

OK, I just backspaced over a lot of 'facts', coz most of y'all already know all that. Most who don't have their minds made up and don't want to be bothered with facts, anyhow. I just wish I could take pride in my ancestors' commitment to a JUST cause without being compared to a nazi. 8-(SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-60423772105332852292011-05-13T15:30:00.005-04:002011-05-13T15:42:57.459-04:00Fractured Florida Factoid Friday
FLORIDA FOLK FESTIVAL

Friday, May 27 through Sunday, May 29, 2011
Open daily at 8:00 a.m.
Opening Ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. Friday
Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park
11016 Lillian Saunders Drive
White Springs, Florida

One of America's oldest and largest folk festivals.

Highlights include music by...

Sam Pacetti grew up in North Florida, hardly known as a hotbed of either the folk tradition or musical innovation. At age 13 he found the music of both Chet Atkins and Merle Travis, profound influences on his early musical development. Then fate intervened shortly afterward in the person of Gamble Rogers, the legendary picker and raconteur from St Augustine who took the young Pacetti under his wing. It was a time of astonishing musical and emotional growth. Pacetti and Rogers me and played weekly for a year, until tragically Rogers died while trying to save a drowning tourist caught in an undertow at FlaglerBeach, Florida. Though brief in their time together, Rogers was able to instill in Pacetti the importance of the folk process, the passing of music and oral tradition from teacher to student. Pacetti still counts Rogers as his most influential mentor. read more...

SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-36175919852535242692011-04-15T22:52:00.003-04:002011-04-15T23:32:32.482-04:00Cheerier topics?

Just thought I'd pop up for a breath of fresh air and pass along an interesting link. Stuff happens, knowwhutImeanVern?

Anyhow, I have no problem with a person who has a little sense swimming with the manatees, or even touching them. Unfortunately, common sense is extremely UNcommon, hence the laws regarding same. My major problem is how a pack of mow-rons treats the poor critters after shelling out a few bucks to be hauled out amongst 'em, as if their payment grants privileges unseemly. 'Nuff said.

Hope y'all are having a bodacious year. Mine's been pretty crummy so far, hence the even greater than usual dearth of postings. But one day, the sun will shine again, right? And one day, it'll be over 60° again, right?

SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-56936993932698388192011-02-04T14:01:00.004-05:002011-02-04T14:17:47.021-05:00I'm mad!!! I was just thinking what a nice deal I found - 1/2+ off a manatee or dolphin excursion in Crystal River - when I read what the manatee tour included. Isn't touching a manatee in the wild illegal?! Apparently, the same people who are supposed to be working to protect these wondermous creatures see nothing wrong with issuing special permits to bottom feeders looking to cash in on the docile nature of Florida's state marine mammal. What's wrong with this picture?!

I just watched a short video of divers 'snuggling' up to a group of manatees who couldn't get into the warm springs, as it was already overcrowded. They were cold and hungry and trying their best to stay warm and conserve energy. You cold see that they were trying to get away from the people who used them to push off, rode on their backs and chased after them.

DAWG! There's a reason there are laws against this stuff! But if you shell out a little cash, we'll let you do it, anyway.

Now I realize that there are two sides to every story. If anybody can tell me any part of the other side that makes this OK, please enlighten me. Coz right now, I'm kinda sick to my stomach.SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-11249138417039308562011-01-27T16:04:00.003-05:002011-01-27T16:09:04.283-05:00Spring, where art thou?
I know just how he feels!

SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-24066100438455800092011-01-25T14:47:00.003-05:002011-01-25T15:07:09.301-05:00Old dog, new tricks? How to Netflix?OK, so I'm about convinced to give Netflix a try. But I'm totally confused about how to set it up. I mean, if I hook something up to my current DSL modem/router/whatever it is, which has maddening issues when it rains... or gets real cold... or a squirrel chews a wire, am I going to get cut off in the middle of a movie? If I do a separate dealie, will there be conflicts? Why do the all the streamers have to be so expensive?! I don't have a Wii or Blu-ray or X-box or any other handy dandy black box. We don't do any of that stuff. So I shell out $75-$100 (or more) just to receive the Netflix stream? I mean, what if I do the free trial and decide it's not for me, after all? I now have a $100 black box to collect dust, and it doesn't even have any redeeming decorative qualities.

Once I get it, IF I get it, how do I hook it up? So far, all the 'instructional' pages I've found are quite obviously aimed at someone who has a clue to begin with. I don't. It's actually pretty discouraging and I've just about lost the will, knowwhutImeanVern?

Anyhow, have any of y'all tried Netflix? Will I love it? I do like the thought of being able to watch Monk whenever I'm in the mood. And I'd certainly enjoy seeing Pushing Daisies and Beakman's World again. It's the little black box and the intimidation factor that cause pause. So, who wants to come over and set it all up while I go to Applebee's? 8-}SophieMaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09396958301555933308noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35354768.post-35095962654894355032011-01-25T01:17:00.003-05:002011-01-25T01:27:31.508-05:00Tallahassee Italian Family Festa - 55% Discount!!!I know some of my local readers will be taking in the Festa, so thought I'd save y'all a few lira.

$9 for Two Adult Weekend Passes to the Tallahassee Italian Family Festa February 19 and 20 ($20 Value).
