Unexpected guest

This elegant gentleman showed up at our back door yesterday and stayed overnight. He reminded me that I had seen one of his brothers on a convenience store wall about 10 days ago.

We were very honoured that he chose to spend about 1/7 of his adult life with us. He ate nothing and was very quiet - a perfect guest! - so what happened to his other antenna was left to our imaginations. He spent the morning here and we were happy to let him rest when we left to run some errands. When we got back, late in the afternoon, he was gone. I'd like to think he answered the call of a female and they're somewhere out in the forest planning a family.

Re: the missing antenna - I'd say bird or bat did the deed.

I'm with Thingfish.
He's beautiful against the weathered wood.

Either way, he had a very close call. They are amazingly beautiful creatures, aren't they?

FC, I remember that name. When Duller gets home this weekend, I'll ask him.

Tip, it's a Luna Moth and there's another one on our back door right now! I hope he stays long enough for me to get some more pics tomorrow. Not often I see so many in such a short time.
