Florida Factoid Friday

On 19 January 1977, snow fell as far south as Homestead.
This was a first in the history of south Florida and has never happened again.
The story, in many newspapers, overshadowed Carter's inauguration.

I remember waiting at the bus stop that morning, trying to make snowmen....not quite enough snow for that! But I sure do remember it!

I was fresh out of high school and my buddy Paul took the skeg off his surfboard and went snowsurfing down the slopes of the Castillo de San Marcos.
Got his picture in the St. Augustine Record and still claims to have invented snow boarding.

Weather is often a scene stealer: and something you can never control -- not even the president!

SwampAngel, did you get pictures? Funny how we can be so fascinated with things that are so ordinary to others.

FC, too bad he can't cash in on that.

Robert, I think some believe they can. 8-}
