I love JESUS! I'm a 7th-generation Florida native, dyed-in-the-wool Southron belle. I just recently dusted off my genealogy notes and, thanks to a long-lost relative, nearly doubled the details. We started home schooling when only 'outlaws' did it and still enjoy a daily quest for knowledge. These days, the family spends a lot of time birding, butterflying, spending as much time in 'the woods' as possible while they're still here.
You have got to be kidding me....an historic area is for sale!?!?! The Battle of Natural Bridge???? Why on Earth doesn't the state buy it??? Or the NPS??? Now that really is sad...
SwampAngel and Sho, that property adjoins Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park. It's a pretty small park. I don't know why the state hasn't jumped on that property. I reckon it must be low on their priority list.
These days I'm seeing "weeds", and really big ones at that, growing on the giant "construction" hills of dirt. The past couple of years those hills would be flattened into new subdivision mounds in no time flat. Times have changed.
Those older buildings look all to familiar to me as does the development. Looks like a lot of that will be on hold for a while.
Nice photo's. Dogs can look so pitiful. I think they really know what they are doing when they put on that face. It is usually directed to the one they know they will get the most sympathy from.
I've passed by those old buildings in Metcalf before. They're hard not to photograph. On the side of the last brick building there's an old "Orange Crush" mural that you can still barely make out. There are also quite a few beautiful canopy dirt roads around there too.
Sophie, I'd love to see a photo of the Orange Crush mural that Big Bend Blog mentioned. I take photos of drink signs painted on brick walls, and OC is my favorite historic soft drink -- (I collect the bottles). Might you have a picture somewhere?

Robert, I must confess I've enjoyed that aspect of the crumbling housing market. 8-}

Sophie, your dawg might not give you that really sad face but the one she managed is mighty adorable!

That very last shot got to me. Great contributions! Thanks for sharing!
Baker, I'm sure you're right. She knows who's the biggest pushover in our house.
Meems, she IS adorable... and she knows it. And knows how to work it, as well. LOL!
Big Bend Blog... I'm always looking for an excuse to go up there. I don't kow how I missed the mural! Thanks ever so for telling me about it!
Steve, I'll try to get up there soonly and get a shot.
Enigma, me too. I keep hoping I can get someone to care enough to save it.
