Mystery solved
Suze got it! I really should hunt down all my field guides and figure out which orbweaver I've been snapping. She's a beauty, ain't she? I haven't had the heart to evict her, even though she's been way too industrious around my front door.

Wow, that was great! I came in late, after the ID was revealed, but no way I would have guessed with that first obscurity of stripes and belly hair.
Now that I see the whole picture - it's not a Golden Silk, but it is probably a cousin anyway.
wow, that was a tough one! I believe it's an argiope. Pretty cool!
