I love JESUS! I'm a 7th-generation Florida native, dyed-in-the-wool Southron belle. I just recently dusted off my genealogy notes and, thanks to a long-lost relative, nearly doubled the details. We started home schooling when only 'outlaws' did it and still enjoy a daily quest for knowledge. These days, the family spends a lot of time birding, butterflying, spending as much time in 'the woods' as possible while they're still here.
Wow, this one is tough, not because it doesn't look like anything, but because it looks like so much! I've got five reasonable guesses already, but don't know which direction to go.
I will brave an initial guess, though and say it looks like the back of the head of a young Florida Cottonmouth.
Okay, my first thought was some kind of cobbler.HA... shows you where my mind is and how bad my eyes are at this game. Ya'll keep guessing... I like the progression of the reveal and I'll stick to gardening! Meems @Hoe&Shovel

My first thought was that it was the edge of a tortoise's foot.
It is that time of year, you know!
Snake. Definitely a snake. And from the stripe, I'd have to agree with Steve. It's a young water moccasin.
(So many snake pictures this past week on the other blogs I read! What's the deal I wonder? Did you see FC's purty one on his screen door?)
Steve, you're very, very close.
Sayre, I almost posted a softshell's foot, but couldn't get a good enough shot. I've been seeing quite a few at the refuge lately.
SwampAngel, soooo close. The snakes are finally coming out to play again. FC's screen snake really was a beauty. He sure has some amazing encounters.

Sophie, if it's permissable, I'd like to revise my answer to Canebrake Rattlesnake.
Meems, OH, I am SO hungry right now! LOL!
Steve, revise as often as you like. You're even closer now. I'll be posting the full view shortly.
