Florida wakes

I thought I'd just do a little visual catching up over the next few days. I've been spending a lot of time getting better acquainted with my 'new' camera, neglecting other pursuits... like posting here more than once a week. There have been lots of frustrating rejects, but every now and then something satisfying makes its way through the card reader.

Like this squirrel (which was technically in Georgia), munching on a slice of bread. (Some other nature nut was the benefactor.)

Or this happy pelican on a foggy day. Poor lighting and distance were against me, but ya gotta love that big grin. 8-] (Shell Point)

My nemesis, the Belted Kingfisher. (St. Marks NWR)

Eastern Phoebe (St. Marks NWR)

Bee fly (my driveway)

Looks like you've gotten the hang of your new camera. Nice stuff.
So hard to get close to a kingfisher, but you seem to have done it.
The composition on that beefly shot is primo!

Awesome belted kingfisher, as are the other photos. But I know how hard the belted kingfisher is to photograph - as soon as you stop and focus, off he/she flies to a farther perch.

Thanks ever so, y'all! 8-]

FC, those kingfishers really are camera shy. I always look forward to the return of the beeflies. They help me get a little extra exercise, as well. 8-]

Suze, I'm always trying for a kingfisher shot. Once in a blue moon, I manage to sneak up on one long enough to actually press the shutter.

Great pictures! My fave is the bee, though. Very nice. Heck, they're all really good!!

They're all great, but I especially like the one of the phoebe. It looks so dainty.

aka - valown, couldn't remember if I mentioned that before now

SwampAngel, bee flies are such fascinating little creatures. Walking down the woodsy path, you can hear dozens buzzing around ground level.

Cedrorum, I'm kinda partial to the phoebe, as well. It was a very obliging subject that day.

I almost forgot you had changed your moniker... gotta remember to change my link.
