Christmas in Florida

Just a couple of trivial holiday tidbits, so y'all don't forget me during my blogging dry spell. 8-]

Ten Florida places have Christmas in their names:
Christmas, Fort Christmas, Christmas Cemetery and Christmas Park in Orange County
Christmas Island and Christmas Pass in Pinellas County
Christmas Bay in Hamilton County
Christmas Creek in Seminole County
Christmas Lake in Gilchrist County
Christmas Point in MiamiDade Couty

Around Christmastime of 1992, Jacksonville shoppers who had neglected to drop enough change in the parking meter got a pleasant surprise. Instead of a parking ticket on the windshield, they found an orange slip of paper that read:

'Tis the week before Christmas and all through the city
People are shopping; so we will take pity.
No tickets today - We will not cite.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

I can't believe that story about Jacksonville. Maybe it isn't such a bad city after all.

At last, good news from Jax.

Must be a murder a day there.

RCWB, it has its moments. I'm still hoping I don't ever have to live there, though. 8-}

FC, reckon nothing's ALL bad. Working on moving somewhere else, for sure. 8-}

LOL! I live down here and never heard of Christmas Point! How embarrassing...

That's the first good thing I ever read about Jax. I wonder if they'd ever do that again?

sophie: i always love your ingenious posts and tidbits of information that are interesting and informative. never would have thought about the florida christmas names but i'm glad to know it now.

i must be missing something but i kind of like Jacksonville ...for a weekend visit anyway. hubby and i have been there a couple of times in the past two years and really enjoy the cute historic district by the river. of course living there could be quite another thing.

swampangel, I still find some place I never heard of every time I scan DS's FL atlas.

Meems, I enjoy an occasional visit, as well, but I really don't think I'd care to live there.
