Sparrow under glass

Well, I finally got a really good picture of a White-throated Sparrow. But it wasn't exactly what I had in mind.
This poor little guy thought our sliding glass door was open sky and flew headlong into the wild blue yonder. I had a silhouette of a hawk back there for a while, but it kinda fell apart a few months ago and I forgot to replace it.
Birds fly into glass doors or windows because they reflect the sky. The birds can't tell whether it's live or Memorex. There must be something different in the atmosphere or with the sun angle or ??? this week, coz I heard another one hit the door about an hour ago. Fortunately, this one flew off with a headache. Time to order a new hawk before another feathered friend pays the price. 8-[

Poor bird. Seems like a shame to waste him. Can you do taxidermy? I used to have a friend in the museum business who picked up road kill, kept it in her freezer in hopes that someday she would have a chance to learn how to stuff and mount them. She never did. They moved and her husband made her throw her "collection" out.

That's a bummer. We had it happen here as well, with a little goldfinch. Poor little guy.

We actually had a blue heron crash into my childhood home and break his neck.
Bizzarre!

Cathy, my son probably would've put him in the freezer. If we had an extra just for such things, I might allow it. But it just kinda creeps me out to think of him in there with tomorrow's supper. 8-}

TF, I feel kinda guilty when it happens, but we can only do what we can do.

FC, a heron?! Did he break the glass, as well?! Good grief! We had a great egret fly out of a ditch into our van. We drove home with the headlight shining up into the trees.
