This is one of my best birding buddies - (I bleeped out his face, as he prefers anonimity) - standing next to the buttressed trunk of one of my favourite trees, a Bald Cypress. How amazing are these trees?! This guy is about 6'4"!

We discovered this little pond this afternoon and were quite impressed by its beauty. The other thing that impressed me, and broke my heart, was the litter. Bottles were floating in the pond and scattered around the entire area. Cardboard boxes were tossed here and there. But worst was the deer carcass. It looked as if whoever dumped it had left most, if not all, of the meat. At least the scavengers wil have a few decent meals.

I was able to get a few fairly decent pics before the wind shifted and we had to beat feet. (Smelled just like a giant stinkhorn!) Unfortunately, there wasn't a shot to be had that didn't include the litter. This kind of behaviour saddens me nearly as much as the supposed progress sweeping across the state. But litter can be cleaned up. Once the forests and farms are replaced by subdivisions and strip malls, that's all she wrote. 8-(

I'm running a bit late. I'll try to post more about the Bald Cypress later.

Those cypress are really unique-looking. Maybe they were logged at some point...becaue their lower parts are so thick and right above it is really thin. That is a really nice-looking pond.

HT, I never really thought about it, We see a lot like that. Maybe age or environment?

FC, I just love that wind-blown skirt look. 8-]

I could definitely be wrong...I'm not plant life expert. It could just be trees trying to be beautiful :-D

That's it. They've been on the South Beach diet. 8-]

We have a couple of cypresses that size at the very rear of our lot. I'm always comforted to know that only God will take them - not man nor machine.

TF, I know just what you mean. There's a cypress stand out back here, but I can't get to it. I'm trying to convince one of my guys here to clear a path. Shouldn't take more than a week or 3. 8-}
